The battle for the top spot in the Nike Track National rankings is starting to heat up, as state meet action starts to take place across the United States.  From this point forward, every Tuesday we'll post News & Notes from around the country, pointing to top stories and happenings from the top teams in the country. 

Here's what's taking place:

In the NTN boys rankings, 40 points separates the top four teams.  Brookwood (GA), Godby (FL), Vista Murrieta (CA) and East Kentwood (MI) are all coming on strong at the right time, with Spring (TX) pushing over the 7800 point barrier, as well.

At the Florida 2A State Meet this past weekend, Godby (FL) simply outclassed the field, winning the team title with 61 points, finishing a whopping 33 points ahead of runner-up Jones High School.  Godby scored points in ten separate events, with Terrell Bryant and Lavorrie Johnson winning the 800m and long jump events, respectively.

On the girl's side, Long Beach Poly (CA) continues to dominate, amassing an amazing 8218.59 points, with second place Chandler (AZ) still looking strong with 7879.24.

Talk about versatility, Chandler (AZ) junior Hannah Carson seems like she can score in whatever event she puts her heart into.  Carson not only is a nationally elite javelin thrower, but she high jumps 5-6, can throw the discus over 150 feet, the shot put over 43 feet, while also long jumping, hurdling and sprinting.
