Another week closer to Nike Track Nationals and the top teams in the country are really starting to lay down some big-time performances.  Here's this week's NTN News & Notes from across the United States.

The meet of the week this past week was easily the Arizona Boys State T&F Championships, where four of the top fifteen ranked teams in the country squared off in the 5A-I competition.  Mountain View TC (AZ), Brophy Prep TC (AZ), Desert Vista TC (AZ) and Chandler TC (AZ) went head-to-head, with the lowest ranked of the four teams coming out on top.  It was a close finish, but Chandler pulled it out by a 92.16-88 margin over Mountain View.  Desert Vista placed third overall with 76.66 points, while Brophy Prep rounded out the top four with 75 points.  Full Results HERE.

On the girls side, US#2 Chandler TC (AZ) dominated then US#5 Desert Vista TC (AZ), scoring a monster win at the Arizona State T&F Championships 5A-1 event, winning by a 177.50-84.50 margin.  Chandler simply dominated with 17 top three performances.  The squad won the 4x1, 4x4, LJ, TJ, HJ, 400 (sweeping 1-3), 200, Shot Put and Discus.  Talk about domination.  Meanwhile, Desert Vista placed six individuals in the top three, winning the 800m dash and placing six in the top seven of the pole vault.  Xavier Prep (AZ) finished third overall with 84 points, dominating the distance events.

Arizona Getting Like California and Texas

Despite a strong state meet, where they won by a 51-42 margin over Peachtree Ridge (GA), Brookwood TC (GA) remained US#2, trailing US#1 Vista Murrieta TC (CA) by the slimest of margins.  As of Tuesday afternoon, Vista Murrieta has a 7987.11-7975.65 edge over the Georgia 5A champions.  Less than ten points separates these two teams, and assuming they both stay healthy over the coming weeks, they'll be the two favorites heading into Nike Track Nationals.  Latest Boys Rankings HERE.

Speaking of Brookwood, they showed their strength on the track, winning two individual events at the Georgia State T&F Championships this past weekend, while having four other top three performances.  However, their field events didn't place anyone in the top six, with only one athlete finishing in the top eight.  Looks like they'll have to rely on their track performances to come up big in Eugene on July 2.

Nice summary of the Georgia State T&F Championships HERE (AJC).

Showdown Alert: Right now it looks like a California v. Arizona showdown will take place at Nike Track Nationals, as six of the top ten girls teams in the country are from the two states, while four of the top five boys teams hail from AZ and CA.
