The Varsity Girls Track & Field program has been selected by Nike to compete at the inaugural Nike Team Nationals track & field championships. The meet will be held at historic Heyward Field on the campus of the University of Oregon in Eugene, Oregon. The meet will be on July 2nd and is part of Nike's celebration of track & field that includes the world class Prefontaine meet of course named in honor of the great Oregon middle distance and distance star, Steve Prefontaine. Our girls will compete on the 2nd at Heyward Field and will be guests of Nike at the Prefontaine Meet on the 3rd. Only 12 Girls teams were selected for the meet from the entire United States.
The squad that will represent Harvard-Westlake at this spectacular event will be as follows: Senior Zaakirah Daniels (100 meter hurdles), senior Sydney Haydel (Shot Put), junior Hilary King (100 meters and Long Jump), junior Lauren Hansson (400 meters), junior Chelsea Edwards (High Jump), sophomore Amy Weissenbach (800 meters), sophomore Cami Chapus (Mile) and sophomore Kei Goldberg (Pole Vault). Each team will compete in nine of ten contested events and points will be awarded by performance similar to Decathlon or Heptathlon scoring. Above classes reflect the '09-'10 school year.
An extraordinary honor and accomplishment for these girls, our program and our school.
Maximum congratulations to all involved.
