In the inaugural Nike Track Nationals, the girls from Chandler High School of Arizona had a field day.
The jumpers and throwers from Chandler swept Friday’s five field events at Hayward Field to win the team title. Hannah Carson led the way with resounding victories in the discus and shot put, helping Chandler to 7,721.65 points in the 12-school meet that used decathlon scoring to select a high school national team champion.
Carson threw the disc 132 feet, 4 inches, and the shot 42-4, and was the only girl to win two events Friday. Chandler also got wins from Haley Bowser in the pole vault, Jasmine Todd in the long jump and Cadija Harris in the high jump.
Todd finished third in the 100 meters, Chandler’s top showing on the track. Their hay was made on the infield.
